Custom made compression springs

Not every compression spring is a standard compression spring. That is why we have developed a wide range of options for custom-made compression springs. Read more about our basic parameters, treatments, aftertreatments and quality for custom-made compression springs.

Basic parameters of custom made compression springs

Tevema has the standard option of cold turning up to 20 mm compression springs. With a maximum outside diameter of 200 mm and a maximum free length of 400 mm. Thanks to these standard options for producing compression springs, we have a wide range of options for customizing compression springs.

  • Max wire 20 mm in cold coiing
  • CNC coiling machines
  • High precision
  • 100% inspection of the unstressed spring length and diameter if required

Treatments for custom compression springs in manufacturing process

The presetting of compression springs ensures that the loss of load is reduced. In addition, the compression springs "stand" better due to the presetting. To prevent damage to springs, this is done up to a maximum wire diameter of 15 mm. The maximum length in which springs are pre-set is 500 mm with a maximum outer diameter of 169 mm.

  • Max wire range: 15 mm
  • Max free length: 500 mm
  • Max outside spring diameter:169 mm

Heat treatment

With heat treatments we ensure that the custom-made compression springs obtain their optimal life span. Heat treatments ensure that the initial stress on the compression springs is reduced. The initial stress on compression springs is reduced by heating the metal to the correct temperature and then also allowing it to cool at the appropriate rate. The heating process ensures that the residual stress on the metal is relieved. The cooling process ensures that no new residual stress arises.

Grinding

Grinding is an aftertreatment for the closing of an compression spring. A compression spring can be closed in several ways. The way in which the custom made compression spring is closed affects the way in which a compression spring can be applied, of course there are also exceptions to the coil springs.

Custom-made Compression springs with closed and square ends.

The closed and square-ended compression springs are turned with the seal connected to the last turn. The ends are not actually square but are cut off at the last turn, which gives them the name “squared ends”.

This is the most economical way of sealing compression springs. All compression springs at TEVEMA are made and ground from a thread thickness of 1.0 mm. Thanks to this process, the springs can stand upright. During the grinding process, an additional winding is pressed against the final winding, which is then ground off until it is straight. Thanks to this process, the coil spring has a very stable base that provides extra surface force transfer.

Shotpeening

Shotpeening as a method to significantly improve the operating (fatigue) life of springs is certainly not new. The commercial origins of the technique date back to the automotive industry of about 1930, and today almost all automotive impications use shotpeening. We use the high automotive standards for our shotpeening processes. Shotpeening is also suitable for custom made compression springs. The shotpeening process is relatively inexpensive and has been proven to extend life by five to ten times or more compared to unhardened compression springs. Shotpeening is done with steel balls from 0.8 Ø mm.

Quality control on custom-made compression springs

When you request a custom compression spring, the quality in accordance with the specified specifications is of course important. TEVEMA has automatic control on every production machine, treatment machine and after-treatment machine. In addition to these checks, TEVEMA has additional checks that are performed by both machines and human hands.

Aftertreatments

TEVEMA's powder coating has passed multiple tests, you can rest assured that our custom compression springs will withstand 336 hours of salt spray test in accordance with DIN 53167, DIN EN 60068-2-52, DEN EN ISO 9227 and DIN EN 60068-2-11.

Next to powder coating we offer: Nickel plating, Zinc plating, Chrome plating, Brass plating, Copper plating, Silver plating, Tinning, Au plating, Pickling, Passivation, Phosphating, Electolytic polishing, Cleaning grade ASML 2 and 4 and Laser welding.
